Tommy Wisdom, a native of Arlington Massachusetts and alumni of Suffolk University recently joined the Soldier team as the newest Brand Project Manager. We interviewed him to learn more about his life before Soldier and what his time in the studio has been like so far!
Where did you work before you came to Soldier?
I was doing Graphic Design for the consulting company Cutter Consortium and before that I was working for the Sign making company in Concord, MA; Crosby Design.
What’s something interesting/unique about you that no one in the office knows?
I used to get paid to travel and ride a skateboard.
How did you find out about Soldier?
I’ve known about Soldier since my early teens. Bobby (Soldier CEO) is a founding team member of Concepts which gave me free skateboard gear and taught me many life lessons. As I grew up I learned about the history of Concepts and so I inevitably found out about Soldier.
You’re familiar with the Boston area, what is your favorite part about living here and your favorite places to go throughout the city?
My favorite part of Boston is the community here. Apart from some years spent in San Francisco and New York City I’ve spent most of my life in Boston and have a strong network of friends/ creative professionals here which keeps things interesting! A few of my favorite areas are Newbury St, Copley Sq, Long Wharf /Aquarium, and the South End.
Lemon-lime or fruit punch Gatorade?
I always see your bike in the office, when did you start riding and what’s your favorite part about biking into work?
I don’t remember not being able to ride a bike. You see and feel more on bike as compared to a car. Biking to work is a buffet for the senses. You also feel more connected to the people and everyday life happening around you. You also get to work feeling like a million bucks.
What’s your favorite part about working in Cambridge/Harvard Square?
The whole atmosphere created by the culture, the people, the food and the shops. I like working late nights in our Harvard Square office because you can hear the live music from the street performers.
If you could teleport right now where would you go?
What do you like about working at Soldier so far? What are you looking forward to?
The fact that the Soldier team is not just coworkers—it’s a family. We hang out and do things together and that’s why we work so well as a team. We can be direct in everything that we do and it makes us really efficient.
The projects we get to work on are really dream projects of mine– designing identities and building retail environments for great brands. Also the clients— it doesn’t surprise me that the people behind these great brands are just as awesome.
If you could be trapped on a deserted island with one person in the office, who would it be and why?
Hugo–he’s a quick thinker and would immediately begin designing a strategy to escape. His depth of knowledge in business strategy is remarkable but his breadth of knowledge in various facets of life is always a surprising treat….or Russ. Russ would probably find a way to call in a chopper.
We’re excited to have you here, Tommy!
